Our Story Our breeding programme is currently on hold while I dedicate my time and energy to supporting my eldest child as she pursues her sporting goals she’s only 12 with massive potential but we all know as parents with young teenagers especially how challenging it is in today’s world ❤️ For now, our focus has shifted but we’re still passionate about creating products that make life easier for dogs, puppies and their owners. In the meantime… 🐾 We are proud to be suppliers of heavy-duty dog crates and practical puppy feeding stations, designed with quality, durability and everyday use in mind. And we’re just getting started… 🛏️ Orthopedic dog beds coming soon 💧 Hydration stations coming soon 🐶 More quality essentials for your dogs and puppies to follow. Bull Breeds of Aotearoa
ABBA represents the wider bull breed community — not just one breed. These are some of the bull breeds welcomed within ABBA. This is not an exhaustive list; other recognised bull-type breeds are part of the community too.
American Bully XL
The American Bully XL is the tallest and most substantial variety of the American Bully, retaining the breed's signature broad head, muscular frame and calm, confident temperament. Bred as a companion, the XL combines an imposing presence with a loyal, affectionate nature. As with all heavily-built breeds, structure, health testing and responsible breeding matter greatly.
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Courageous, affectionate and famously good with people, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a compact, muscular dog with a big personality and a heart of gold. Originally bred in England, the Staffy is known for its love of family and reputation as a devoted companion. As with all bull breeds, socialisation, health testing and responsible ownership matter greatly.
English Bulldog
A calm, courageous and dignified breed with a distinctive wrinkled face and stocky build, the English Bulldog is a gentle companion with deep historic roots. One of the oldest bull breeds, it has evolved from a working dog into a devoted family companion. Because of its structure, respiratory and joint health and responsible breeding matter greatly.
French Bulldog
Compact, adaptable and full of character, the French Bulldog is a beloved companion breed with bat ears and a wonderfully affectionate nature. Originally developed as a lace-worker's companion, the Frenchie thrives in homes and cities alike. Because of the breed's flat face, respiratory health and responsible breeding are especially important.
Bull Terrier
Instantly recognisable by its egg-shaped head and mischievous personality, the Bull Terrier is playful, stubborn and endlessly charming. Bred in England from bull-and-terrier stock, the breed is energetic and devoted to its family. As with all bull breeds, socialisation, health testing and responsible ownership matter greatly.
American Bully Pocket
The Pocket American Bully is the most compact of the recognised varieties, short and stocky with all the breed's signature bulk and character condensed into a smaller package. Despite the size, the Pocket retains the confident, affectionate temperament the breed is known for.
American Staffordshire Terrier
Athletic, loyal and confident, the American Staffordshire Terrier is a strong, well-muscled companion that thrives with responsible ownership and consistent training. Closely related to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier but slightly taller, the AmStaff combines courage with an affectionate, people-oriented nature. Structure, health testing and responsible breeding are important for this powerful breed.
American Bully Standard
The Standard American Bully represents the breed's original balanced type — compact, muscular and athletic, with a broad head and a friendly, confident disposition. It is the middle ground of the varieties: substantial but not exaggerated. Sound structure and stable temperament are the hallmarks of well-bred examples.
Bullmastiff
The Bullmastiff was developed as a gamekeeper's companion, a powerful yet gentle guardian. Large, devoted and naturally protective without aggression, it is a calm family dog that needs early socialisation, consistent training and space to move.
American Bully Classic
The Classic American Bully is a lighter-framed, more athletic expression of the breed, less bulky than the Standard while sharing the same head type and people-loving temperament. The Classic often moves with more reach and is a versatile companion for active homes.
Olde English Bulldogge
A recreation of the athletic, healthy bulldog of old, the Olde English Bulldogge is muscular, balanced and loyal, bred for temperament and sound structure. Developed to revive the historic bulldog's working ability without the exaggerations of the modern English Bulldog, it is an active and devoted companion. As with all bull breeds, health testing and responsible breeding matter greatly.
American Bulldog
The American Bulldog is a sturdy, athletic working dog descended from the bulldogs brought to America by early settlers. Larger and more athletic than the English Bulldog, it retains a strong, confident temperament and is valued as both a working dog and a loyal family companion.
Micro Bully
The Micro Bully is an ultra-compact, heavily built dog prized for its short stature and thick, muscular frame. Because of the emphasis on extreme compactness, ethical breeders prioritise sound structure, breathing and joint health over exaggeration. Buyers should seek health-tested, responsibly bred stock.
Boston Terrier
The Boston Terrier, often called the 'American Gentleman' for its tuxedo-like markings, is a small, friendly bull-breed relation. Lively, affectionate and adaptable, it makes an excellent companion for many homes and is part of the wider bull-breed family.
Victorian Bulldog
The Victorian Bulldog is a modern recreation of the historic English bulldog, bred to combine the classic bulldog look with improved health and athleticism. Sturdy, loyal and good-natured, it makes a calm companion with more vigour than its highly exaggerated cousins.
Dogue de Bordeaux
The Dogue de Bordeaux is an ancient French mastiff, powerful and majestic with a deep loyalty to its family. Calm, watchful and courageous, it is a devoted companion that benefits from early socialisation and responsible management of its size and strength.
Miniature Bull Terrier
All the character of the Bull Terrier in a smaller, more compact package, the Miniature Bull Terrier is lively, affectionate and full of fun. It retains the breed's distinctive egg-shaped head and playful temperament in a more manageable size. Structure, health testing and responsible breeding matter for this spirited companion.
Exotic Bully
The Exotic Bully is a distinct, very compact bully type developed for an exaggerated, short-bodied look. While striking, the extreme type can carry health risks, so responsible breeding focuses on welfare, sound structure and temperament. Buyers should research breeders carefully and prioritise health.
Catahoula Bulldog
The Catahoula Bulldog is a cross between the American Bulldog and the Catahoula Leopard Dog, combining strength, intelligence and energy. Bred as a versatile working dog, it thrives with an active home, clear training and a job to do.

As the colder months settle in across Aotearoa, it is important to keep our bull breeds comfortable, active, and healthy through winter. Short-coated breeds like the American Bully, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and Bulldog can feel the chill more than you might expect. Here are a few winter care reminders from the ABBA community: - Provide a warm, dry, draught-free sleeping area, raised off the ground. - Avoid overfeeding in winter — keep to measured meals and monitor weight, as reduced activity can lead to weight gain. - Keep up with regular exercise, even on colder days. A waterproof coat can help short-coated dogs stay comfortable on wet walks. - Watch for stiff or sore joints, particularly in older dogs. Speak to your vet about joint support if you notice changes in movement. - Dry your dog thoroughly after wet walks to prevent skin issues. Winter is also a great time to focus on indoor training, recall work, and enrichment games. A tired, mentally stimulated dog is a happy dog. If you have any winter health concerns, always consult your veterinarian — your vet is your best partner in keeping your dog in top condition.
Responsible Breeding: Why Health Testing Matters
At ABBA we believe that ethical, health-first breeding is the foundation of a strong future for every bull breed. Health testing is one of the most powerful tools a responsible breeder has. Why health testing matters: - It helps reduce the risk of hereditary conditions being passed to puppies. - It gives puppy buyers confidence in the health of their new family member. - It builds transparency and trust across the breeding community. - It supports the long-term health and reputation of the breed. Common health testing for bull breeds can include hip and elbow scoring, cardiac checks, DNA screening for breed-specific conditions, and respiratory assessments for brachycephalic breeds. If you are a breeder, we encourage you to keep your testing records up to date on your dog profiles. If you are looking to welcome a puppy, ask breeders about the health testing they have completed — a responsible breeder will be happy to share this information. The American Bully is one of the most popular bull breeds in Aotearoa, and it comes in four recognised varieties — each with its own distinct build and proportions while sharing the breed's signature temperament.
